So, we've finally done it. We converted Troy and Jonathan's cribs into toddler beds. It was pretty easy because all we had to do was remove the side on each of them and "Voila!" Toddler beds! The strange thing is that neither of them ever figured out how to climb out of their cribs. They climbed every other surface in the house, but never made that fateful leap out of the crib. When Kevin saw the "new" beds he said, "What happened to the babies' cages?" Essentially I guess that's what they were, and I'm kinda sad to see them go. But it was time.
Getting them used to sleeping in regular beds is the next step right before..... potty training. DUN DUN DUN! I figure they need to be able to get out of bed by themselves before we start potty training. Maybe after Kevin starts kindergarten we'll think about the big P.T.
Kevin was in a toddler bed when he was much younger than the twins are now, but that was out of necessity. They were on the way and we needed the crib. Shortly after Kevin switched to the regular bed, he stopped taking naps. It was a sad time. I imagine that's coming for the twins also. But for now we get to fight the battle of getting them to actually go to bed and not just play around in their room.
Have you ever seen the movie "Signs"? There's this scene where the aliens are running around on the roof trying to get in the house. You don't see them yet, you just here all these footsteps running around on the roof. Well, the twins room is directly above the computer room, where I am currently typing up this entry. I'm having flashbacks from the movie. And I'm just as scared now as I was when I watched it years ago. Which reminds me of a quote from another movie.
"You're sure they're contained?"
"Yes. Unless they've figured out how to open doors."
