Okay... Seriously?

Getting Kevin to eat has always been a challenge. It seems like he was born a finicky eater and has only become more finicky as time goes on. That's a big reason why he's such a skinny little kid. So if he actually asks for food, I generally give him whatever he asks for.

Case in point, we were all having dinner the other night and he didn't want what we were having. Big surprise. Eventually he opened the door to the pantry and tried to figure out what sounded good for dinner. He doesn't always ask for the most healthy things, nor does he ask for things which are easy for me to just whip right up. So when he asked for a banana, I gladly agreed. What could be better, all I had to do was peel it and hand it to him. And it was even healthy.
But it couldn't be that simple.

After Kevin was quiet for a little too long, Steve eventually asked me, "What is Kevin doing with his banana?" I looked over at Kevin, then looked back at Steve and replied, "He's cramming it into the pencil sharpener."

We just sat there looking at each other with varying expressions of disbelief on our faces. Then I asked the obvious question, "Kevin, why are you cramming your banana into the pencil sharpener?" I was really expecting him to say "because I wanted to sharpen it" but instead he just said, "Because I want to." What followed was me telling him not to put the banana in the pencil sharpener, followed by him getting angry and throwing the entire banana in the garbage can, followed by Steve hauling him down to his bedroom for a time out. And I still find myself immensely curious as to his thought process that led up to trying to sharpen a banana.

You wonder what goes through kid's minds sometimes! What a story.

That is awesome. When I saw the title of your blog, I thought, "Oh no, she is pregnant with twins again." I'm glad it was just a food story....:)

In your family picture it looks like you could have triplets Kevin is so skinny! We have issues with our pencil sharpener too. Spencer cannot leave it alone. But Kevin gets the prize for creative pencil sharpener mishap!
