1984. Almost 30 years ago. Also a book by George Orwell about a dystopian society after a global atomic war. But in this case it's the year that my house was built and the year that the cabinets were put in. I'm tired of them. They're the classic 80s cabinets. But I decided to paint them and drafted Steve to help me. We got it done in 1 weekend plus a couple days and I'm pretty happy with the results.
Step 1: Remove cabinet doors and scrub everything down with TSP.
Then scrub it all off with water and sand everything.
Step 2: Paint every surface with primer, then sand everything and dust
Step 3 and 4: Paint with more primer, sand and dust, Paint with more primer, sand and dust.
That's right, 3 coats of primer with sanding and dusting in between each one.
Step 5: Finally, time for paint! I chose a high gloss white.
Steve is a wizard with this little roller. It saved so much time and there are no brush strokes to deal with!
Step 6: Another coat of paint. Finally after 3 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint, and a lot of sanding and dusting in between, we're done. Love my new cabinets!
