Haircut day

Probably about a year ago I asked a friend to show me how to cut boys' hair. She has four boys herself and has always cut their hair as well as her husband's. She came over and showed me how to cut Kevin's hair and I've been the family barber ever since. Steve was a little nervous at first to let me practice on him but I think he's pretty happy with the results most of the time.
Haircut day is crazy though. I like to do them all on the same day so I only have to clean up once. My friend also gave me the valuable tip of letting the kids play in the sink while I cut their hair. It really does keep them occupied. Jonathan was first this time:
Troy got to be next so while Steve put Jonathan in the tub, Troy got his hair cut. It's definitely a two person job.
As you can see, there was already a lot of hair all around, sticking to anything that was slightly wet.
Kevin was last. While I was cutting his hair I heard Steve yell, "Jonathan, NO!" Followed by the pitter patter of little feet and a naked and wet Jon Jon came running back into the kitchen and climbed up on the chair. Apparently it's more fun to play in the sink than the tub. His wet little body was the perfect magnet for all the hair that was lying on the chair, so Steve came and put the little Sasquatch back in the tub. I didn't get a picture of that but here's Kevin's hair, almost finished.
I was basically exhausted after all the fun of haircut day, so I'm glad I already did Steve's a few days before this. With how fast all of their hair grows, I've been really glad to be able to cut it myself and save a few bucks. Plus it helps me get to know my children on a hair follicle level. Even though they all get the exact same haircut (because it's the only one I know how to do!) they all turn out differently.

I'm glad that you can still have humor in your life- knowing your boys on a "hair follicle level". That is funny!!

I'm jealous that your boys are ok with you using the clippers. I pay for my boys to get their hair done because it's the only way Gavin gets a halfway decent haircut. But I'm spoiled because my friend comes to my house and cuts my hair and the boys' hair for a total of $30. To me it's worth it.

april, you never cease to amaze me! do you think i can send my boys over on your next haircut day? i think playing in the sink might work...though, i bet you'd probably notice two extra heads to shave. hehehe.
