I should have learned this long ago

One nice thing about talking with other moms, is that I can learn something that will hopefully help me out with my own momdom. Here's an example.
Another mom was telling me how her son (who is Kevin's age) got into the poster paint and painted the floor, the couch, and himself brown. He kindly decided to put on several of his brand new clip-on ties before he started, so now the little Van Gogh had painted the ties too. But instead of freaking out, screaming at him, or locking herself in her room and eating chocolate, she went straight for the camera. She took pictures and then grabbed the camcorder and filmed him and the mess, before cleaning it up. I'm sure she was still really upset but I've tried to use that example and use film before I resort to crying and name-calling.
So when Kevin drew all over the wall with ballpoint pen, I took a picture before I had him help me wash it off. (We didn't get it all off though. I got tired of scrubbing and figured it would just be easier to paint over it sometime.)
And who hasn't grabbed a camera when the kids faces are a mess? Before I started scrubbing their faces and then just threw them in the tub, here are the twins after they finished their spaghetti:
Kevin once ate a cupcake with blue frosting. The result was my dad looking at the picture and asking if he ate a smurf:
I can honestly say that taking a picture of the disaster first has helped me not freak so bad when it happens. Both of the twins are climbers so we have our kitchen chairs up on top of our table. The chair that won't fit, we just lay down on the floor so they can't use it to get up on the table. But today Jonathan found a way to get into trouble anyway. He wasn't in mortal danger so I didn't feel bad getting a picture of him:I did rescue him after he hit his head and started crying though.
